Call - Director of Survey Research (Bangladesh)

Democracy International (DI) seeks a Director of Survey Research to design and manage its ex-isting and future research activities. This position is a long-term position based in Dhaka, Bang-ladesh.
Democracy International is implementing USAID’s Democratic Participation and Reform pro-gram, which seeks to promote broader participation in Bangladeshi Political parties, especially by women and young people, to encourage support for internal political party reform, to strengthen the capacity of parties to access and utilize information, and to improve the environ-ment for more responsive politics.
A core objective of this program is to enable political parties to increase their capacity to use ev-idence-based research in decision-making. DI has successfully developed and deployed multiple national public opinion surveys as well as other geographically or demographically targeted sur-veys. The Director of Research would manage all aspects of DI’s research program in Bangla-desh.

The responsibilities of this position include:
 Managing a team of researchers and developing and analyzing research conducted or col-lected under the DPR program;  Managing local and international research firms to conduct national and targeted surveys and other research activities;  Developing unique research and monitoring tools for the program and its beneficiaries or tailoring existing methods to local needs;  Working with political parties to improve their ability to use research data and develop their own in-house research capability;  Managing the collection and analysis of internal data and measuring the impact of pro-gram activities for the purpose of program management and evaluation;  Developing and maintaining relationships with donors, local and international partners and others; and  Conducting analysis and producing reports for DI’s headquarters, donors, and other insti-tutions.

Qualifications:
The applicant must have experience designing and managing public opinion polls in challenging environments. The applicant should have experience working with political parties and should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the political and governance use of public opinion re-search. In addition to design and implementation of survey instruments, the applicant will man-age the research department of Democracy International’s Bangladesh offices. The successful candidate will also have experience working internationally, preferably on a political party or civil society program. Qualified candidates will be flexible, culturally sensitive, and practical leaders with strong management and interpersonal skills.

Qualified candidates should be able to demonstrate the following:
 5+ years developing and fielding national or targeted public opinion polls with experi-ence in political research considered favorably;  An advanced degree or equivalent work experience in the area of survey research, public opinion polling, or statistical analysis;  Experience managing survey and research contracts and contractors;  Experience analyzing polls, creating graphs and presentations, and presenting research products to diverse audiences and experience levels;  Experience with international political party or civil society programs, particularly in-volving party capacity building;  Strong English-language oral and written communication skills;  Experience living and working in a developing country;  Willingness to relocate to Bangladesh for a long-term position;  Experience and demonstrated familiarity with government contracting is favorable.
